Why Choose Darwin Chambers Cold Rooms?

For more than two decades, Darwin Chambers has been recognized as a revolutionary leader in temperature-controlled storage technology for laboratories, medical facilities, and many other industries where keeping materials at specific temperatures is a critical task. Since we introduced the first thermostatically-cooled stability chamber over 2 decades ago, we have constantly striven to provide cutting-edge stability rooms and chambers. Businesses, institutions, and laboratories the world over rely on Darwin Chambers products for their cold storage needs because our cold rooms are built to always be on the cutting edge.

Our cold rooms can be constructed in any size space and in any shape. All our cold rooms are built with 4 to 6 inches of polyurethane foam insulated panels. This ensures a high degree of temperature uniformity: +/- .5°C or better throughout the room. We use our Precision Fluid Temperature Control unit, utilizing a combination of refrigerants and glycol/water heat exchange technologies. This means the conditioner can be easily removed, replaced, or relocated, since it connects with easy-to-use water connectors. We also use oversized evaporator fan coils so you do not have to defrost your unit if temperatures are raised to more than 4°C. Each and every Darwin Chambers room is built to meet ICH and FDA standards, plus they are CSA (UL equivalent)-certified for product safety.

We work with all our clients to meet their needs from the design phase all the way to final calibration. For customers who do not need a bespoke cold room solution, our Quick Ship Program allows them to choose from a variety of pre-engineered units. Those units will be delivered within fifteen business days of your order, guaranteed. We also recognize that some clients do not need an entirely new cold room, but rather an upgrade to an existing facility. Maybe your room no longer meets temperature uniformity requirements, or was built by a manufacturer that has since gone defunct. Our engineers can take your cold storage space and turn it into a modern, sustainable space at a fraction of the cost of purchasing a new room.

About Darwin Chambers' Cold Rooms

Our cold rooms are engineered to offer superior, efficient environmental control across a diverse range of applications, from GMP storage to cold storage for seed and agricultural products, nutritional supplements, and beyond. Designed to meet the rigorous demands of various industries, these cold rooms integrate cutting-edge technologies for desiccant or refrigeration-based dehumidification, ensuring low dew-point levels and preventing ice accumulation on product and equipment surfaces. Here's a closer look at the technical specifications and features that set our cold rooms apart:

Core Specifications:

  • Temperature Range: Our cold rooms operate within a typical temperature range of 0°C to 10°C, featuring tight temperature control for reliability and accuracy, plus uniformity of ±.5°C or better throughout the room.
  • Construction: They are built with 4" to 6" Polyurethane Foam Insulated Panels, achieving an R-Value of 31+ or higher, and finished with embossed white aluminum interior and embossed white galvanized steel exterior surfaces.
  • Conditioning System: Featuring a Precision Fluid Temperature Control Unit, our cooling system employs a combination of refrigerant technologies and glycol/water heat exchange technologies. This system is easily replaceable or relocatable thanks to simple water-type connections.
  • Energy Efficiency: Designed to be eco-friendly, our cold rooms typically require fewer than 1000 Watts to operate, complying with LEED standards and offering lowered maintenance costs.
  • Control Systems: Equipped with simple, easy-to-use, and easy-to-service non-proprietary controls, ensuring smooth operation and maintenance.
  • Safety and Accessibility: ADA compliance is standard, with no additional cost. An emergency personnel alarm system, featuring an illuminated pull-to-reset push-button and glow-in-the-dark features, enhances safety.

Additional Features:

  • Temperature and Humidity Control: Exceptional temperature uniformity and precise control at sensor/set-point (±0.2°C) and humidity control at sensor (±0.5%).
  • Lighting: Supplied with LED lights for enhanced efficiency and reduced radiant heat, contributing to lower cooling requirements and energy use.
  • Alarms and Monitoring: High/low alarms, with options for added dehumidification, ultrasonic humidification, extended temperature and humidity ranges, Ethernet/remote monitoring/alarms, and data logging for comprehensive control and oversight.
  • Customization and Compliance: Our cold rooms offer flexible configurations, corrosion-resistant equipment, diurnal cycling temperature, and are CSA certified. Optional features include stainless steel/special surfaces, water-cooled or air-cooled condensers, custom lighting systems, and high-density shelving among others.

Our commitment to innovation, quality, and customer satisfaction ensures that when you choose our cold rooms, you're investing in a solution that meets your precise needs, supports environmental sustainability, and offers long-term reliability and efficiency.
