Darwin Chambers Company is a growing, privately owned company that manufactures controlled environment chambers for research labs at universities, pharmaceutical companies, and government contractors. Field Install Technician

Main Responsibility:
  • Assists or directly installs walk in cooler enclosures, mechanical systems and electrical systems at remote sites in accordance with standard installation procedures.
  • Employs the use of tools and materials with caution and while following approved safety measures. Maintain cleanliness of job site during installation.
  • Start up and test all completed projects to ensure that they operate throughout their designed operating ranges.
  • Identify and resolve issues and conflicts with the construction manager.
  • Completes job and time documentation in a legible manner and submits all documentation on a timely basis.
  • Performs final clean-up of job site following installation.
  • Performs shop work and maintenance duties as assigned when in shop.
  • Pre-build required mechanical components prior to shipping to site.
  • Pull materials together and prep for shipping/delivery to support installation of specific projects.
Requirements:
  • Ability to travel at least 80% of the time worldwide to customer sites to install environmental chambers.
  • Valid driver’s license w/ clean record required.
  • Basic carpentry, electrical, and plumbing skills preferred.
  • HVAC, EPA Certification and OSHA 10/30 Certification preferred but not required.
  • Ability to read a measuring tape, familiarity with power tools and basic construction tools.
  • Must be able to stand for several hours at a time, climb up & down ladders and lift at least 80-100 lbs.
Applicants with a HVACR, EPA Certification and OSHA 10/30 Certification will start a the higher end of pay scale. Pay range is $15-$18 / hr, depending on experience, plus benefits.

Field Service Technician

PLEASE NOTE: This is NOT an IT position.

This position reports directly to the Service Manager.

Main Responsibility:
  • THE ABILITY TO TRAVEL THE CONTIGUOUS UNITED STATES 60%-80% OF THE TIME TO SERVICE AND REPAIR ENVIRONMENTAL CHAMBERS ON CUSTOMER SITES. INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL A POSSIBILITY.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and professionally with customers, vendors, and coworkers.
  • Ability and willingness to learn technical information about a specialized product line in order to better assist customers.
  • High level of competency with computers, including the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Outlook, and Excel).
  • Great attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, the ability to prioritize tasks or multi-task when necessary.
  • Self motivation is a MUST.
  • Must have a personal credit card or the ability to obtain one.
  • Must be able to stand for 8 plus hours at a time, climb up & down ladders and lift at least 75lbs.
  • Ability to read blueprints and wiring diagrams a plus.
  • Ability to perform entry level to complex troubleshooting.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally with client and team members.
  • Ability to understand and use a measuring tape.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment and to work independently.
Education and Experience:
  • High school or equivalent.
  • Experience in general troubleshooting, mechanical knowledge, and electrical knowledge a plus.
  • EPA Refrigeration Certification and OSHA 10 Certification to be completed within first 3 months of hire (required).
  • Personal Vehicle Insurance (required).
  • Driver’s License (required).
  • Passport or the ability to obtain one within first 3 months (required).
Pay is $16-$22 per hour based on experience and competency.

CAD Draftsperson

Main Responsibility:
  • Design small to large-sized rooms/chambers for occupied laboratory studies (cold/warm/damp/dry rooms).
  • Draw basic mechanical equipment including: piping, compressors, racks, etc.
  • Draw basic electrical diagrams and field conduit wiring.
  • Design basic HVAC systems consisting of: light duct work, plenums, coils, condensing units, evaporators, heat exchangers, etc.
  • Work to provide improved transition from engineering of systems to actual construction.
  • Develop drawings for submittal to customers and actual installation.
Requirements:
  • Solid Works proficiency. Portfolio showing related or unrelated past work is exceptionally beneficial.
  • AutoCad and Revit experience helpful.
  • Ability to read, understand and work from blueprints, specifications and schematics.
  • Ability to work as a team on a somewhat fast-paced schedule.
  • Ability to excel in an office environment, but also occasional travel around the country, if desired, to perform site visits.
  • Must be physically able to work in a seated or standing position, in a small-medium office setting.
Pay range is $35K to $55K, plus benefits, depending on experience.

Materials Prep Tech

Major Areas of Responsibility:
  • Pre-build required mechanical components prior to install site.
  • Construct wooden shipping crates to use for shipping tools and equipment needed to support installation of off site projects.
  • Pull materials together and prep for shipping/delivery to support installation of specific projects.
  • Assists in in-house pre-build of rooms requiring customization.
  • Assist in tear down and packing of rooms pre-built in house.
  • Identify and resolve issues and conflicts with the shop foreman manager.
  • Start up and test evaporators, light fixtures and condensing units prior to shipping to ensure that they operate throughout their designed operating ranges.
  • Employs the use of tools and materials with caution and while following approved safety measures.
  • Maintain cleanliness of work areas.
  • Completes packing lists in a legible manner and submits to install tech or shop foreman for approval.
  • Performs shop work and maintenance duties as assigned.
  • Inventory shop parts/supplies in a cycle counting fashion.
Primary Objectives
  • Complete the project scope on time and under budget.
  • Ensure that all project tasks are executed per plans, specifications and company standard operating procedures.
Job Requirements
  • Be able to read and understand specifications of job submittals in order to accurately pack job boxes to support installation off site.
  • Minimum 8 hour work day.
  • Demonstrated ability to: Communicate effectively with other employees.
Education and Experience:
  • Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Years of experience: 0
  • Other requirements: Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle insurance.
Physical Demands
  • While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel. The employee is often required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl for extended periods of time. The employee is required to be able to lift up to 75 pounds to shoulder without cooperation from others. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
Work Environment
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often exposed to moving me-chemical parts, electricity, outside temperatures, and vehicles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Pay is $10-$14 per hour based on experience and competency.
