The AR series chambers feature hot gas by-pass technology which controls the temperature of the epoxy coated evaporator for greater uniformity. All of these models run with 0.25 - 0.67hp compressors making them efficient enough to run on 15 amp, 115 volt circuits.
The Darwin Chambers AR series is designed specifically for the needs of archival preservation. This series is capable of providing long-term controlled storage of photographs, film, rare books, papers, and paintings. Utilizing a simple. precisely controlled refrigeration system and advanced desiccant-based dehumidification, temperatures are maintained to within ±0.2ºC (at the sensor) and relative humidity to within ±1% (at the sensor).
Not only is this series of chambers perhaps the most precise, but they are also exceptionally energy efficient for the high performance they offer. Typical uses and temperature ranges the AR series is capable of providing a solution for are as follows: Books, papers, and paintings: 10ºC (50ºF), 30% RH Film, photographs, microfilm: 1.7ºC (35ºF), 35% RH
(The above settings are somewhat typical, but there are many different desired set-points, depending upon the nature of the preserved media.)
The AR series chambers allow exceptional temperature control anywhere within the range of 0ºC to 25ºC (32ºF-77ºF). Temperatures below 4ºC will require defrost. Relative humidity can be controlled at any percentage from 10% to 60%, within an allowed dew-point range of -12ºC to ambient. The standard chambers do not include humidification (they can be added as an option for unusual applications), as they are normally not needed to maintain lowered dew-points.
These chambers incorporate an innovative dryer control system that maximizes performance while lowering energy requirements and increasing reliability. In contrast to existing control systems that cycle dehumidification systems on and off, decreasing life span and causing erratic control, the Darwin solution accurately modulates the dryer output, maximizing reliability and producing tight control.
Standard controllers for the AR Series are manufactured by Fuji Electric and are ideal for archival storage chambers Unlike many proprietary controllers, this controller is commercially available and proven in tens of thousands of installations. Standard functions include: autotuning, fuzzy logic, PID control, programmable alarms, calibration capability, ramp/soak, offset capability, etc. A touchscreen control interface is optional. Other controller manufacturers are also supported (Watlow, Allen Bradley etc.)
We offer technical support throughout the lifetime of your chamber. In addition to standard warranties, we also offer extended warranties for cooling components, parts and labor. We also provide preventive maintenance services at an additional cost.
Cabinet Construction
Stainless model has stainless steel front door, and sides on exterior. Interior is stainless steel side walls, back, floor, ceiling, and door liner. This unit includes LED interior lighting.
Standard model features stainless door, front, and brushed aluminum sides. Interior has coated aluminum side walls, door liner, and back with stainless steel floor and ceiling.
2" I.D access port with access port cover and insulation plug located on side wall of the chamber.
Doors
Positive seal, self-closing doors (gravity cam-lift) with 120 degree stay open feature. Door gasket removal and installation is tool-less. Glass door models feature double pane,"Low-E" glass.
Insulation
Entire cabinet structure and doors insulated using foamed-in-place CFC-free polyurethane foam.
Shelving
Wire shelves (3 per door) available in stainless steel or PVC coated. Shelves capable of supporting up to 150 lbs of evenly distributed weight. Gray PVC coated shelves are standard.
Full height shelf support pilasters, with double oblong holes on 1/2" centers. Pilasters made of the same material as cabinet interior. Four (4) chrome plated, stainless steel shelf clips to be included for each shelf.
Refrigeration
Unsurpassed temperature control through continuous refrigeration bypass system.
Refrigeration system factory balanced using CFC free 134A refrigerant.
Top mounted condensing unit.
Factory pre-engineered capillary tube system with oversized condenser and evaporator to reduce product pull down time and to consistently maintain interior cabinet temperature (non-adjustable capillary tube system superior to problematic expansion valve).
Evaporator – epoxy-coated at the time of manufacture to eliminate the potential of corrosion.
Electrical Characteristics
Unit completely pre-wired at factory, and ready for final connection to a 115/60/1 phase – 15 amp dedicated (recommended) outlet. Unit runs approx. 6RLA under test conditions.
A cord and plug set is included.
A sole use circuit is recommended.
